Grandstand operational, centre re-opens

AFTER almost a year and $70,000 later, the grandstand at the Warwick Indoor Recreation Centre has finally re-opened.

Southern Downs Regional Council Business and Community Services director

David Tuxford said the grandstand had been fenced off last year following advice from engineering company Cardno.

"Engineering company Cardno had found the fault and recommended the area be cordoned off and temporary props be installed," he said.

"Cardno also advised of some design solutions for the grandstand.

"Council initiated a tender process and then engaged Rob Wilkinson as the contractor," he said.

Mr Tuxford said council had undertaken a comprehensive assessment of the fault in the grandstand structure.

"Repair work means the grandstand is able to be used for upcoming swimming carnivals and other events," he said.

"Council staff have removed the temporary fencing yesterday and the grandstand opened yesterday.

"Council apologises for the inconvenience and the delay in rectifying the issue, however we now have the area fully functional again."
