Grant for new clubhouse for group at Morgan Park
THE Warwick Aero Modellers has secured a $35,000 grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to go towards a new clubhouse at Morgan Park.
President Dennis Mooney said building approval would now be sought from the Southern Downs Regional Council for a clubhouse to be built on the western side of the Barclay Airfield at Morgan Park.
"Members are excited about the grant and we are now searching for what we can get for our dollars,” he said.
Once the clubhouse is constructed, it will get plenty of use as the club flies twice a week.
"We fly on Sundays and Wednesday afternoons,” Mooney said.
"New members are paired under the buddy system with an experienced pilot.”
The club's youngest member is a 12-year-old boy from Warwick.
Children of any age can test their skill on a simulator at the flying field.
Mooney said another project was to start construction of some covered space in the pit area.
"We have been given a new carport for the pit area which will be put up once approved by the council,” he said.
Each Sunday, flying is from 8.30am to 2pm. The aero modellers are situated near the entrance to Morgan Park.
There is a free barbecue on the second, fourth and fifth Sundays.
The club has a small charge for the barbecue on the first and third Sundays at the airfield.
