Grant gives Sullivan Oval an upgrade
RUGBY LEAGUE: Upgrades to Sullivan Oval are being continued, after the Junior Rugby League received a grant during October.
The grant was part of round 89 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, with the club receiving $31,818.18.
Stanthorpe Junior Rugby League President Lindsay Adams said they were grateful to receive the funds.
"It's all part of a strategic plan which is unfolding in roughly the time line we were hoping, so we're very happy,” he said.
The money is being used to continue upgrades at Sullivan Oval.
"This is a continuation of our long term project of the changing sheds, and this last grant will be going towards the last stage of that, which is a commentary box with a selectors box and downstairs will hopefully have a meeting room,” he said.
"So that will complete that, so we can get rid of that old commentary box because she's had her day.”
Adams said the upgrades will not only help the rugby league, but all teams who play on the field. He said they will continue to apply for grants to complete the works.
"This is only a small portion of what we need to do that, but it's a massive help in getting us in the right direction to get the project finished,” he said.
The upgrades to the facilities means more carnivals can be held in Stanthorpe.
"We're very lucky now, we have four dressing sheds, so it's easy to run carnivals,” Adams said.
"There's absolutely no doubt about that (it will bring in teams).
Stage one to the upgrades has been completed, with stage two due for completion soon.
"We'll be ready for the season and then we'll carry on looking for some more funding or fundraising to come up with the extra money we need to complete the last stage.”
