Grants are open for first ever electronic music conference

OVER 750,000 Australians visit dance festivals each year.

To the burgeoning electronic dance music industry these festivals are worth more than $75 million every year.

While recent attention has been on the explosion of EDM in the USA, Australia has long been a steadily growing market and an innovator for crossover styles and artists.

For the first time ever, this November's annual ARIA awards week will see an Electronic Music Conference produced by the Sound Alliance, the creators of Australia's dance music community inthemix.com.au

An official part of ARIA Week, the conference, held in Sydney on November 27 and 28, will see musicians and managers attend panel discussions, masterclasses, keynote speeches, cocktail parties and showcases with an aim to provide professional development, networking, and export opportunities.

Some high profile international and local guests have been lined up for the conference, giving weight to the organisers claims that the Australian EDM industry is respected and envied the world over.

"We are a world leader, and we believe it's time Australia had a conference and networking event that matched our global status and ambition," they said.

Speakers include artists Tiesto and Diplo; Big Day Out boss Ken West, and Twitter's Director of International Market Development, Mike Brown.

In good news for those in regional NSW, the conference is offering grants to artists and their managers.

The 2012 Quick Response Grant program provides financial support to artists and managers wanting to attend.

Grant applications open today, and close at midnight on November 20.
