Great bowling effort but Maryvale suffer first loss
CRICKET: A hat-trick by Will Gordon and five-wicket bag to Kieran Bourke wasn't enough as Maryvale Condamine lost by 56 runs to Redbacks at Slade Park on Sunday.
The loss was the first of the season for a Maryvale Condamine team which hasn't lost a game all season in 40-over or T20 cricket.
The Redbacks win was set up by 62 from Coen Slatter and 46 by Jamie Saunders in a score of 160.
Kieran Bourke dismissed Saunders and took four other wickets for figures of 5-37 off five overs after he was seventh bowler used.
"I have taken four wickets in a innings six or seven times and had a catch droppped once to deny me five wickets so this is my first five-wicket bag,” he said.
Gordon took 3-3 off four overs, including three wickets in successive balls, one bowled and two LBW.
Maryvale lost the wicket of Pat Bourke in the first over to a slips catch off Sam Waetford and never looked like making the runs.
Michael Bourke top score with 26, Jason Steketee made 24 and Tom Bourke 20 in a score of 104.
Waetford took 4-18 off eight overs and captain Tyhe Clarkson 3-19 off seven overs after initially planning to sit out the game. Slatter capped a great day with 2-29 off five overs with the ball.
