THE leaves are almost beginning to turn into all different beautiful shades of golden yellow and orange.

Autumn is almost upon us and so is the annual autumn flower show.

Held on March 6 and 7 the event will be one sure to impress those with a green thumb.

The show is in St Mary's hall on Wood St each year and keen gardeners have been in preparation for the past few weeks.

One woman who has been entering her plants into the show for many years is Merle Bamberry.

Merle has been gardening for more than 80 years.

"I remember gardening with my grandfather when I was five or six years old," she said.

"It's a great pastime and I still enjoy it.

"I remember growing all different plants, including vegetables."

The event is open to the public and there is no fee for exhibits or for entry.

Light refreshments will be available and there will be raffles running throughout the two-day event.

"I've entered in the show many times," Merle said.

"I've been lucky enough to take home some ribbons each year."

Entries into the show will be accepted between 8am and 10am sharp on Wednesday, March 6.
