Platz to open the league carnival

FORMER Toowoomba Clydesdales star and rugby league international Greg Platz will officially open the zone 5, under-43 kilogram rugby league carnival on Monday.

The carnival is being hosted by the Warwick and Southern Downs Zone 5/U43kg Committee and eight teams will play in the five-day carnival.

Teams include hosts Warwick, Wynnum, Cunnamulla, Western Downs, Central Downs, South Burnett, Balonne/Barwon and McIntyre.

Platz is originally from the Nobby area and played all his senior footy for Wattles before playing for Queensland and Australian as a hard-tackling back rower.

Brisbane Broncos football manager Peter Nolan, Broncos development manager Paul Dyer and former Stanthorpe player Michael Hancock, who played 297 NRL games, will be guest speakers at the officials' dinner on Monday night at the Warwick RSL.

The Warwick team will again be coached by Robert Baguley. Leon Close is manager.
