Grella makes move from overseas club to Melbourne Heart

VINCE Grella will look to put a somewhat forgettable past four seasons behind him when he arrives in Melbourne this weekend to take up a one-year contract at Melbourne Heart.

The midfielder managed only 38 games for English side Blackburn Rovers in that time, before the club released him at the expiry of his contract earlier this year.

The 33-year-old, who represented Australia 46 times, will link up with his new teammates on Monday afternoon after they return from their round three fixture against Perth Glory at nib Stadium.

Grella trained with Heart while on holidays in July and is excited to link up with his good friend and former Socceroos teammate John Aloisi, now the Heart's coach.

The tough midfielder had previously resisted coming back home to the A-League because of the criticism Aloisi copped in his first season at Sydney FC.

Grella spent 10 years in professional club football in Italy, including spells with Empoli, Torino and Parma, and has been working on his fitness with a personal trainer in Italy during the past four months.

He will adopt a mentoring role at the Melbourne club.
