Gribbin set to raise bar
PAT Gribbin has set a target time of two minutes 10 seconds, for the 800 metres in the 2011 school athletics season.
Gribbin and Sarah Tansky were two of the stars of yesterday’s Assumption college athletics carnival with wins in the 100 metres, 200m, 400m and 800m.
The final events of the house carnival are some 1500m races today. Age championships and house trophies will be presented at the college on Monday.
While Tansky believes the 100 metres is her best event, Gribbin prefers the 800 metres where he can mix speed and endurance.
Tansey recorded times of 14.6 seconds, 31.2, 1:14.0 and 3:0.15 at the four distances and is aiming to do well at the Warwick All School Sports and Darling Downs titles to qualify for her second state championships.
She has run a time under 14 seconds for the 100m and would love to go under 13 seconds this season.
Gribbin ran 12.8, 26.2, 58.3 and 2:22.97 yesterday and is keen to again make the regional team. He ran a personal best of 2:11 last year for 800m in making it to the state championships and will be happy if he can run under 2:10 this season.
There was plenty of face paint and novelty uniforms at the carnival yesterday.
