Goondiwindi groups share in community funding
GOONDIWINDI and District Campdraft Association is one of four groups to share in close to $120,000 thanks to the latest announcements from the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
The Campdraft Association was granted $27,700 which president Stephen Wells and treasurer Kelly Runzer said would be used to improve facilities for the campdraft held in October.
"It'll be used for infrastructure at the ground of benefit to everyone," Mr Wells said.
"(The money) will save the entire camp and competitors and horses because conditions will be better for everyone.
"Like a lot of these sort of things put in for them and don't get it, but there's four groups in Goondiwindi, which is a huge influx of funds to a regional area that will do a world of good."
Mr Runzer said the money was a boost to the community at large.
"It will definitely help; whether we run more competitions or put it into lessons," he said.
"Our annual campdraft is not as big as Warwick but one of the bigger ones before it in the year, so hopefully can do more with it.
"We in the committee will be able to do a lot more than we would without it, and we only keep enough in our kitty to operate, the rest goes back to community.
"All the money we make goes back to organisations like CareFlight and Blue Care, prostate and breast cancer."
The Goondiwindi Swimming Club will also enjoy improvement to facilities thanks to a $24,338 grant, while the Kindon Parent and Citizens Association and the Kioma Parents and Citizens Association received $27,500 and $31,818 respectively.
Goondiwindi councillor David McMahon congratulated each group for their drive and enthusiasm in seeking out external funding opportunities.
"It just goes to show what is possible where committees invest in the time to sit down and write a grant application that ultimately benefits us all in some way," Cr McMahon said.
"I commend the get up and go attitude that we have in our Goondiwindi community and trust that we can have more success with applications from hard working committees."
