Gypsy show a huge success
GYPSY Pathways, the first show for 2013 put on by the Warwick Arts Council on March 22 was a great success.
More than a hundred people came to enjoy an evening of fiery rhythms and vibrant colours.
The Warwick audience was easily drawn into the contagious, provocative, and at the same time seductive, to-and-fro between the singer and the dancer.
For the entire evening the Southern Downs was turned into southern Spain. The audience became guests at a gypsy wedding.
In fact, I still saw, next morning, some Warwick residents taking quick steps on the footpath and waving their hands through the air as if they were flighty little doves.
People also made the most of the evening to socialise, and the food and fine Ballandean Estate wines on offer in the foyer, provided the perfect opportunity to do just that.
After the show, the artists mingled with the audience and enjoyed a well-earned supper.
Their feedback was that the historic Warwick Town Hall was by far the best venue they performed at during their entire six-week tour and that the welcoming hospitality they were afforded by the WAC was outstanding.
They assured us they would come to Warwick again, anytime.
A big thank-you to the Queensland Government for sponsoring the show, to the Warwick Daily News, Bank of Queensland and Creed and Lang for helping us with advertising and promotion, Stephanie's Lingerie, Mayfair Casket and Café Joie de Vivre for selling tickets, the outgoing Warwick Arts Council committee for securing this fabulous performance for Warwick, and, of course, to all the people who supported the evening by turning out.
Thanks to the number of tickets sold, we were able to make a small profit which will help in bringing other great shows to our magnificent Town Hall, or to other venues on the Southern Downs in future.
