Hagon set to call at Leyburn

WELL-known motor sport commentator Will Hagon will call the action at the Leyburn Sprints for the first time this year.

Hagon and experienced Darling Downs-based commentator Jamie Lawson will be the course announcers throughout the August 27-28 weekend.

Hagon has been the respected voice of Australian motor sport commentary for more than 40 years. Familiar to fans on-course, on radio and on television around the country, he brings an unmatched store of knowledge and experience to his work.

He is a popular ABC radio personality, reporting on motor sport for the Grandstand weekend sports program and motoring for Tony Delroy’s late-evening Nightlife.

His voice also is heard on DVDs about Australia’s motoring and motor sport heritage.

Hagon started commentating long enough ago (he won’t say when in the 1960s) to remember a lot of cars – and drivers – before they became historic.

After returning from commentating in England in 1976-77, he started with the ABC in TV and radio, where he covered a myriad of car and motorcycle racing events. He has called 11 Bathurst 1000 events with Channel 7.
