Hallman set for Warwick Cowboys game record in match at Highfields

RUGBY LEAGUE: David Hallman said he would be “pretty proud” to run out for the Warwick Cowboys tomorrow at Highfields and become the most capped player in the club.

Ron Perquin and Hallman each have 272 games, the most since the Cowboys started a tally back to 1995.

Hallman has won a premiership in reserve grade, played six seasons in A grade, played in an A-grade preliminary final, been club captain and won trophies galore.

He has won best forward awards in all four grades, best defender in three, players’ player in three and some best and fairest and clubmen awards.

He was on the club committee for two years and is a regular at working bees.

In two seasons at Hervey Bay Seagulls, Hallman won the Spirit of the Seagulls, players’ player and best forward awards in A grade.

He is confident the Cowboys have a great chance to win a premiership in reserve grade this season but isn’t just a one-game player.

Hallman is happy to also line up in second division with mates Jay Hankinson, Matt Bohm and Ged Dwan who all came through the under-18 grade together.

With family commitments, he can only train once a week so is happy to play in the lower grades.

He is the assistant coach of Collegians U9side, in which son Mark plays; son Logan plays U7s and daughter Alivia is a midgets netballer.

There is no thought of retirement.

“My next move will be to just play second division,” he said.

Warwick is equal first in A grade and Highfields equal fourth so the 2.30pm game tomorrow will be a great guide to the season hopes of both clubs.
