Happy to be dark horse
ALANA Frizzell likes being with the underdogs The Darkside in the run up to the Warwick Netball Association A-grade grand final on Monday night.
The Darkside beat Cherry Bombers 28-24 in the preliminary final on Monday to qualify for the highest-profile match of the season.
"It was a top team effort against Cherry Bombers," Frizzell said.
"Mandy Rutledge and Helena Fraser were strong in defence in the circle.
"In the grand final, we have to starve (Hazards goal attack) Stephanie O'Brien of the ball."
The Darkside will be strengthened in the grand final by the return of experienced shooter Karen Vogler.
Kerry Fearby is the veteran of The Darkside and acknowledged the clash with the minor premiers would be tough.
"We will give it our best shot," Kerry said.
In the preliminary final, Kerry played against a team including her niece Ashleigh Fearby.
"Our experience got the better of their youth and fitness," Kerry said.
Cherry Bombers player Chenae Ridge spoke highly of their coach, Lisa Fitzgerald, after what was their final game as a team after five seasons.
"She was our best friend, second mum and coach," Ridge said.
Team member Alison Burrill rated a one-point inter-district final win against Laidley as a team highlight.
The team won two inter-district titles, was runner up on one occasion and capped a top five years with a third in A-grade this season.
