Head down the highway for show fun this weekend

PREPARATIONS are well under way for this weekend's Spano's Supa IGA 2018 Stanthorpe Show, the first show of the year on the Queensland circuit.

Show president Brett Boatfield said it was their job to set the standard for the rest of the shows to come.

"We're looking forward to the weekend,” he said.

"There's a lot of activity at the showgrounds already and everything is in full swing for a huge weekend.

"We've got a huge sideshow alley this year, all the showies are here already as it's their first outing for the year and they're all keen to get straight into it.”

Mr Boatfield said all the sites were full across the venue.

"We've also seen increases in entry numbers for most sections, particularly in the fine arts competition.

"It's been great to see such strong local support from all the sub-committees involved this year.”

In preparation, works have been carried out at the showgrounds, including a new front fence, the tea pavilion has been renovated and the rodeo and campdraft arena has redeveloped.

Mr Boatfield said the 2018 show promised a huge line-up of entertainment for visitors.

"This year we have The Rooftop Express on Friday night, which a first for us,” he said.

"Trained steers and horses, spectacular tricks and candid commentary are all part of this very popular show.

"We've also got a sheepdog presentation planned for Saturday afternoon and the Stanthorpe Show Campdraft will be held in the new arena on Sunday.”

Other crowd pleasers include the smash-up derby on Saturday night and the ute Show on Sunday.

Live local bands and fireworks displays will entertain the crowds on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Entry is $10 for adults, $6 for pensioners and $3 children under 17 years. Cars are $2 each. Show society members free.
