Toowoomba to swelter again today as heatwave settles in
THE ice maker is in overdrive at Toowoomba Ice and it's just as sure a way for manager Jamie Ramia to tell how hot it is as the weather report.
The half-a-million dollar machine can produce some 45,000 tonnes of ice a day, much of it destined for our eskies when Australia Day comes around on Sunday.
And when the weather heats up, as it's predicted to continue doing this week, production can double.
So while Mr Ramia knows just by the orders that the weather is going to be hot, the rest of us will have to rely on Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Steve Hadley.
He said it would be hot.
DRY, BURNT AND BAKED

"We're looking in Toowoomba at 37 over the next couple of days, then back down to more reasonable temperatures with 31 and 28 for Thursday and Friday," he said.
"It will warm up again for Saturday and Sunday with 32 and 33."
But while Toowoomba residents may feel a little sorry for themselves with the above-average temperatures, spare a thought for our country cousins out west, who will be enduring temperatures up to 43 through the next two days.
Their coolest day this week is predicted for Saturday at 38.
