Heat women in ding dong battle for Big Bash finals

CRICKET: Delissa Kimmince was used at No.4 with bat and ball as the Brisbane Heat won the first of the two games against Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena in Hobart on Sunday.

The former Warwick junior hasn't been needed to bat a lot lately due to the brilliant form of Australian and Heat opening batter Beth Mooney.

Mooney claimed her third consecutive player of the match award with an unbeaten 62 off 43 balls.

Kimmince came in late in the run chase and finished unbeaten on 13 off 11 balls as the Heat posted a winning score of 2-114.

Earlier, Hobart made 4-111, Kimmince taking 0-12 off three economical overs.

The two teams play again on Monday at Blundstone Arena from 12.20pm.

The Heat will head to Mackay later this week with Friday and Saturday games under lights against Melbourne Stars before finishing with double games against the Sixers away and Thunder at home.

Currently the Heat women have four wins from seven games and are equal third on points and equal sixth after run rate is considered.

Meanwhile in the men's competition, Mark Steketee took 3-28 off four overs in an easy Heat win against Perth Scorchers on Friday night in Brisbane.

His figures included successive wickets in his second over to dismiss Michael Klinger and Hilton Cartwright.
