Heat’s on as Mark Steketee captures squad nod
WARWICK paceman Mark Steketee is one step away from debuting for the Brisbane Heat following his selection in the 13-man squad preparing for tonight's clash with Melbourne Renegades at Etihad Stadium.
Selected in the squad last week, Steketee has come into the 13-man travelling squad in place of captain James Hopes who was injured in Saturday night's record-trampling KFC T20 Big Bash League match at the Gabba.
Hopes suffered an abdominal muscle strain while fielding in the final-over loss to the Hobart Hurricanes.
Steketee will wear jumper number six if he is selected to make his BBL debut at Etihad Stadium.
The Heat squad arrived in Melbourne at 1.20pm yesterday but did not train.
Brisbane will have a top-up session late this afternoon prior to the match.
Steketee starred for Australia with his pace bowling in the 2012 under-19 World Cup under coach Stuart Law, the current Heat coach.
