Heatwave has region in its grip
THE heat is on, and it's turned up full-bore - just in case you didn't notice.
For those lucky ones who hid out in the air-conditioning as we reached 37.1 degrees yesterday, you may find a few mates around your place this weekend as temperatures continue to rise.
Weatherzone meteorologist Melissa MacKellar said Warwick reached its hottest January day yesterday since 2006.
Today is expected to reach 36 degrees with a possible thunderstorm in the afternoon.
Tomorrow will hit a top of 37 degrees and Ms MacKellar said it was all upwards on the thermometer form there.
"On Saturday we'll see another trough come through for the weekend," she said.
Saturday is predicted to reach 39 degrees so keep those fans on level three or head around to a mates place who's got a pool.
But it's Sunday that will have the sweat pouring off us as we hit the 40 degree mark.
"Last month Warwick got to 40.2 degrees on December 17 but before that the last one was in January 2002 when we reached 40.1 degrees," Ms MacKellar said.
"It is going to cool down a bit on Monday, which is forecast to be 36 degrees, but it will still be hot with the trough crossing over.
"It will cool down again slightly with 33 degrees predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday."
Ms MacKellar said temperatures were likely to heat up again towards the end of next week.
"There is still very hot air lingering in central parts of Queensland and all it takes is another trough to come through and push that heat over again," she said.
"So we could have more hot days at the end of next week but not quite as hot as this."
