Heaven-sent success

UNIQUE products made with love have proven to be a hot ticket in Warwick, as local business Pure Heaven prepares to celebrate 12 successful months in business.

Owner Maria Heaven said she and her husband Justin had immensely enjoyed their first year in the Warwick market.

It is often said the first 12 months of business are the hardest for small business owners but Mrs Heaven said she had been blown away by the level of support the couple had receive since opening.

"It has been a fantastic year and it was a really lovely surprise to be so supported by the locals," Mrs Heaven said.

Mr and Mrs Heaven also had a store on the Granite Belt, which they ran for about seven years before opening in Warwick and relocating their out-of-town shop to the centre of Stanthorpe.

But she said the two stores still cater for very different markets, with Stanthorpe being more tourism-based.

The Warwick store offers quirky items and a large portion of the items for sale are handmade by the couple.

Their own Pure Heaven range compiles an assortment of items, including soaps, moisturisers, cleansers and more.

Mrs Heaven said consumers are developing a passion for unique, handmade products and are turning away from items mass produced in countries such as China.

Although the store has flourished over the past year, Mrs Heaven said there were still new faces coming through the door every day as locals steadily make their way to the store.

"I think we are learning what the lovely Warwick ladies are loving and looking for when they go shopping," she said.

The fact that the couple make a lot of their own products means they can get quirky and throw themselves into local celebrations.

"We try and keep up with what is happening around the town so at rodeo time we did a special Rose and Rodeo soap," she said.

Mrs Heaven said one of the highlights of the past 12 months was when the store was nominated for and subsequently won the Heritage Business Excellence Award for best new business.

Looking ahead, Mrs Heaven said while it is hard to predict just what is in store, she had plans on moving the store forward during the next 12 months.

"It is really challenging in the retail sector at the moment and that makes it hard to gauge what the next year and beyond will bring," she said.

"We are focusing on increasing the ranges that have been really popular, getting new product labels and also increasing our clothing range," she said.

"We definitely want to continue to broaden the offering."

Pure Heaven will celebrate its first birthday on December 1 and will hold a number of celebrations in the lead up to the big day.

Customers purchasing an item at the store will go into a draw to win a $100 Pure Heaven pamper pack and there will be other giveaways on December 1.
