ROAD closures are still in place west of Warwick, after heavy rain caused flooding in the town of Yelarbon.

The Yelarbon-Keetah Rd was closed about 3pm on Sunday, with reports of up to 400mm of fast-moving water flowing across the road. Police are expected to reassess the section of road this morning, to see whether it is safe to re-open.

Inglewood resident Jaime Slattery was travelling back home from Moree on Sunday afternoon when she came across the flowing water.

She took to Facebook to let people know of the road closure.

"Coming back home and it has been pouring rain the whole way," she wrote.

"And now Yelarbon is flooded and we were one of the last cars through before the roads are being closed."

Yelarbon's Oasis Hotel Motel owner Kevin Davis said there had been more visitors than normal since Sunday.

"We had a full motel (last night) and Sunday was a lot bigger than what they usually are," he said.

Unconfirmed reports were that police issued a ticket to a truck driver who attempted to cross the road after it had been closed.

Mr Davis said there were reports of falls of up to six to eight inches (150mm-200mm) in surrounding properties, which was what caused the flooding in town.

He told the Daily News black clouds were still hanging around, and said there could be more rain on the way.

"It could keep the water up, depending on where it rains," he said.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts possible showers and storms for the region today.
