Work slows on Activity St

SOGGY weather has slowed down roadworks on Activity St in the industrial estate.

The roadworks have been under way in two different stages, the first of which started in 2009.

The northern end of the road has been partly closed while works continue.

A Southern Downs Regional Council spokeswoman said stage two had been affected by the wet weather largely at the beginning of the year.

“In that particular area there's a lot of clay-like material on top of the rock,” she said.

“That clay got completely saturated in the wet weather and, as a result, it expanded.

“We have had to excavate one metre deep to get to the rock and refill it with other material.”

Part of the refilling process includes moving aside the road base to put down an asphalt layer.

The spokeswoman said the road- works project should be finished by early August.

“That date is weather dependent though – if it starts raining again, that date will be delayed,” she said.
