Helmet cam part of polocrosse DVD

HELMET cam has been used at Morgan Park as part of filming of "The Polocrosse Story".

Director Ian Withnall and his wife and producer Sharen Kenny from Palatine Productions were in Warwick for the Barastoc Interstate Series, Shell Cup club competition and Australian team games at the weekend to film footage for a DVD which will be released in late July or early August by the Polocrosse Association of Australia (PAA).

"The DVD has been commissioned by the association to promote and tell the story of an incredible sport which was founded in 1939 by Marjorie and Edward Hirst," Kenny said.

Within three years, Palatine Productions will have shot documentary on two of the three Australian made sports, campdrafting and polocrosse.

Footage from the Warwick Gold Cup was part of "The Great Australian Campdraft" and now "The Polocrosse Story" will highlight the game, the family involvement and the history.

Footage has been filmed at a Hall carnival in the ACT, the Australian Junior Classic and Ladies Silver Stirrup at Albury, and now Morgan Park.

Long-time player and official Kevin Bradford, 78, from Harden in NSW was featured at Albury and at Morgan Park the Warwick No.1 team which won the Shell Cup, the interstate series and Australian team games were all filmed.

"Helmet cam and umpires cam were used for what I believe is the first time in Australian polocrosse at Morgan Park and will be part of a documentary which will be a narrative blue chip presentation of the sport," Kenny said.

"We have talked to saddlers, racquet and ball makers and will show the sport and its horses as it has never been seen before."

Kenny said the facilities at Morgan Park were the Flemington of polocrosse.

"It was Warwick members Les and Robyn Fraser and their son Warwick who introduced us to polocrosse in 2013, we were hooked by the sport," she said.

"The Warwick club has an incredible committee; we were absolutely thrilled to work at Morgan Park."

PAA president Rodney Geppert said the documentary would be used to promote the sport in Australia and overseas.

"It is some years since we have had a promotional DVD done, we want to link it to our website and have it for sale and to promote sport."
