Help for manufacturers from new anti-dumping commission
THE Federal Government will create a new anti-dumping commission next year, Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Tuesday.
The new commission will be part of a suite of reforms to battle the job-threatening practice of overseas companies selling imported products in Australia below-cost.
As part of the reforms, the Commonwealth will also boost the Customs budget by $24.4 million over four years to improve trade dumping investigations.
Ms Gillard said the reforms would aim to improve the anti-dumping system for small and medium Australian businesses.
She said the reforms were part of the government's action to protect local jobs in manufacturing, citing the $5.4 billion in subsidies given and pledged to prop up domestic car manufacturing.
