Syrian refugees resettling on Darling Downs: YOUR SAY

YOUR say on Peter Blundell revealing it was unlikely the Southern Downs would offer to rehome Syrian refugees like Western Downs mayor did.

Sue Fischer: "You mean rehome refugees?

"Would they be the super fit looking strapping men of fighting age?

"Looking at footage of these refugees has me begging the question....where are the aged Syrians and the women and kids?

"Over 70% of the refugees are between 25 and 40 yrs.

"Did they leave the frail aged, women, and children in Syria to face what they themselves are running from?

Dean Palin: I think it is noble to help those less fortunate!

Those people who keep saying "what about our homeless"...

They need to realise you can only help those who want to be helped.

And when is the last time they went out and helped the homeless?

It's a community issue not just a government one.

I'd like to think if the tables were turned, and me staying here would potentially mean my death, that another country and its people would have the grace and heart to take me in.

I love the idea. I think it is a great opportunity for our country and local community.

Lyn Prowse-Bishop: Whilst I think from a humanitarian standpoint we need to do something, I think we have a ridiculous amount of people right here who need help and we're letting them down.

Where are the refugees going to go? If we had no social welfare issues here then I'd say go for it, but we do and we've turned a blind eye to them for too long.

Are we saying our homeless and needy are responsible for their own circumstances and therefore less deserving? That's the implication if we rehome refugees here because all of a sudden we discover the resources and/or capacity to do so which up to this point wasn't available for locals.

Donna Cecil: No. Rehome some struggling pensioners or give the homeless a place to live. If we have accommodation for 1500 refugees where is it? And use it for our own Australians first.

Andy Boll: Helping refugees is great, but first help our own poor and homeless!

Monica Beattie: It's a good idea to help others but I've had to move a way for work and to keep a roof over my head as there doesn't seem to be any full time or part time jobs in Warwick .

Why not put the money into our town to create job opportunities for us all?

Stephen Buckman: Warwick has its own problems without adding 1500 refugees to it. You can't even afford to slash the grass on the side of the road. Let alone look after refugees.
