Helping others on menu

A CLEAN out of her pantry and a quick Facebook post has turned into a campaign to help the less fortunate for one Warwick woman.

Noo Shepherd said she had always wanted to do something for the under-privileged, but didn't know where to start.

"For years my partner and I have wanted to help the homeless," she said.

"We had a clean out, like everyone should every now and again, and thought the items could go to someone in need.

"I just posted it on Facebook and was astounded by the response."

After hundreds of likes and shares and many comments from other Rose City residents supporting the campaign, Noo is now working alongside Community Options and Blue Care to give hampers to those in need.

"We weren't sure how to get the products to people who genuinely needed assistance," she said.

"But with the help of these organisations we know the items are going exactly where they need to be.

"I know that some have gone to aged persons and another lady whose husband was sick.

"Another has gone to a lady who, due to unforseen circumstances, is now caring for two children."

Noo said other hampers were being taken around to schools through the Breakfast Club so children, who otherwise wouldn't, get the chance to have breakfast.

"We'd like to keep the momentum going," she said.

"I'm sure everyone has something they could donate.

"Even if it's just one item that can go together with another person's items and will eventually make enough for a hamper."
