Hendry shines for Warwick Chargers

SOUTHERN Downs junior Lachlan Hendry emerged as a stand-out in the Warwick and District Chargers' 44-10 win over Toowoomba in the final of the South West Rugby League Mustang's Challenge on Sunday.

Twelve teams were listed to play in the event which was held at Sullivan Oval in Stanthorpe for the second year running.

However, five teams pulled out due to school-holiday pressure, leaving seven sides from around south-west Queensland to battle it out for the prize.

After a great performance on Saturday, the Warwick and District Chargers beat Western Downs on Sunday and moved through to the grand final to face the winner of the all-Toowoomba second semi-final.

It was Toowoomba Two that prevailed in the semi and progressed to face a strong Warwick and District side.

In the other results Wests Bundaberg and Caboolture finished in a tie for sixth spot, Brisbane Brothers finished fifth, Western Downs fourth, Toowoomba One third.

Toowoomba Two came a respectable second placing behind the untouchable champions, the Warwick and District Chargers.

President of the Stanthorpe Junior Rugby League Stephen Fleming thanked volunteers and supporters who made the weekend a success.
