Henricks aims high

WARWICK triathlete Jacqui Henricks is aiming for a top-five finish in her age group in the second biggest annual triathlon in Australia on Sunday.

Henricks, Seth Jameson, John Creed and Julius Sakrewski train as a group and will compete at Mooloolaba.

Three years ago, Henricks and Jameson took up the sport.

She comes from a strong swimming background and often leads her group out of the water. Henricks is usually passed by a few girls in the bike leg before finishing with a strong run leg.

Jameson is not a natural swimmer, but makes up time on the bike leg and maintains his position in the run.

Creed retired from Australian rules and took up triathlon seven years ago. After competing in some smaller events, he has qualified for half ironmen and full ironmen races.

Last year, he made the Australian triathlon team, 40-44 years.

"I am usually out of the water with the leaders, hold my own in the bike leg and then I lose a few places in the run leg," Creed said.

Sakrewski first competed three years ago in between polocrosse and Australian rules and will compete at Mooloolaba and the annual Sydney Triathlon on the Olympic course next month.

He is aiming for the Australian team's 35-39 age group for his first World Championships in New Zealand in October.

Former Southern Downs triathletes Cameron Jensen and Greg Woodward will also compete.
