Henry shows Paralympic potential
SportsView with Gerard Walsh
HOW great is it to see Henry Reardon finishing in the top half of the field in open swimming events at Chandler?
Last weekend, he competed in the state sprints and was inside the top-10 in fields of 20 or more in AWD events.
If you can mix it with the best in open events while in year 8, it would appear Henry should be a chance to press for Paralympic selection one day. He also won gold in his age group at Chandler.
But as Olympic silver medallist Loretta Harrop said in yesterday’s Daily News about her nine-year-old son and budding tennis player Hayden, “there is plenty of time”.
There were plenty of Southern Downs swimmers at the state sprints with Allora swimmer Cooper Harm one of the stars with a bronze medal. He will be one to watch in the years to come.
Joe sizzles
I RESPONDED to an email from a cricket tragic a few days ago and said the first innings of the Second Test in New Zealand would be the most crucial in the career of Joe Burns.
The Queensland batsman and Australian opener went out and made 170. I don’t seem to be able to help it but always have one favourite player and tend to be on the roller coaster with them.
It was Matt Hayden, Shane Watson and now Joe Burns. I get nervous when they are batting
Talking cricket, good to see Warwick paceman Mark Steketee in the Queensland Bulls 12 to play in Perth.
