Hey Dad star has anxious wait while jury decides his fate

FORMER TV star Robert Hughes faces an anxious wait with a jury now set to determine his fate.

The former Hey Dad! star is accused of committing 11 sexual and indecent assaults on five women, who were all aged under 16, when the alleged attacks occurred during the 1980s and '90s.

Hughes, 65, who played Martin Kelly in the hit show, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In summing up the case New South Wales District Court Judge Peter Zahra told the jury to "exercise caution" in assessing the evidence of single witness complainants and the jury must be satisfied the women were giving "honest and accurate" accounts of what happened.

He also told the jury there could be "good reasons" the alleged victims did not come forward with the allegations at the time of the assaults because of their age.
