Hi-tech surfing centre to launch

ELECTRONICS giant Sony has backed Casuarina's Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre which officially opens on June 15.

The $2 million Federal Government-funded centre is a world-first facility dedicated to the development of elite surfers and coaches to ensure Australia maintains its position as a world leader in the sport.

Sony Australia's Digital and Relationship Marketing manager Ruben Lawrence said the company was proud to play a role in the future of elite surfing in Australia.

"Our premium audio visual technology will allow the athletes to monitor their performance and will offer them an incredibly high-performance setting in which to train," he said.

"Sony's technology allows the athletes and coaches to analyse performance through record and playback meaning the route to peak performance will be faster."

The HPC is designed in consultation with the Australian Institute of Sport and the Australian Sports Commission.

The two-level centre of excellence will boast state-of-the-art education facilities, equipment and accommodation and will be at the forefront of sports science and coaching development for surfing.

Surfing Australia chief Andrew Stark said the HPC fit-out by Sony would provide an extensive range of electronic equipment.

"The HPC will be an elite training facility and we're proud to have an electronics leader such as Sony supporting the facility.

"It will ensure patrons have the latest technology and entertainment products at their fingertips to further enhance their coaching and training experience at the HPC," Mr Stark said.
