High temps lead to fire warnings for Downs

A SEVERE fire danger warning issued yesterday by the Bureau of Meteorology will continue throughout today, after a spate of grassfires in the Killarney and border regions yesterday.

The warning for "hot to very hot, dry and gusty winds" applies to Warwick and Stanthorpe, along with Dalby, Ipswich and Beaudesert.

"Relative humidity will be down to 10% and winds to 45kmh are expected," the warning stated.

While temperatures of up to 40 degrees are expected in far-western areas Warwick is tipped to have a relatively mild top of 30 degrees.

The weather bureau says there is the possibility of showers tomorrow and on Friday for the Downs.
