Hip hop artist makes a special trip to Warwick
IT WAS an assembly with a difference on Friday morning at Scots PGC College as the students were treated to a visit from speaker and hip hop artist Blake Young.
Blake and his crew were in Warwick as part of their national tour visiting schools and youth groups spreading their unique message of hope.
Originally from Los Angeles, Blake's childhood was anything but ideal.
He grew up dealing with abuse, drugs, violence, gangs and divorce.
Blake was abused as a child and he said that this and other issues he was exposed to, caused him to head down a dangerous path.
"It doesn't matter what you've been through," Blake said.
"We're here to tell these kids that they are worth something, we want them to see the value in themselves, the value in their lives and where they live. "It's all about hope."
Blake and his crew talk about the VIP message; value, identity and purpose.
"The music is a great vehicle for this message," Blake said.
"It's coming from an external source that they can relate to and understand."
