Historical society calls the local roll of honour

THEY are mounted on walls in schools, community halls and even churches and the Warwick Historical Society is on a mission to uncover every honour board and roll featuring the names of soldiers who enlisted in the First World War in Warwick.

Warwick and District Historical Society president Janice Flood said the society was conducting the research for the Genealogical Society of Queensland in the lead up to the centenary commemorations of the First World War in 2015.

"It should make for an interesting database," she said.

"It will give a complete look and it would be great to get some background information on those who served too."

Ms Flood said boards, rolls, memorials and plaques were scattered across the region.

She said the aim of the project was to locate all the boards and obtain a description of them, a photograph, acquire a list of names and research their personal details including both service and family information.

Ms Flood said it would be great if community members could help the society.

If you have any information about the whereabouts of honour boards around Warwick all you need to do is send an email to warwickhistorical society@gmail.com.

Alternatively you can phone Ms Flood on 0428 340 144.
