Hockey pair wins praise

DYLAN Ready and Mitchell Hoffman were praised for their work in goal for the Warwick under-13 hockey team in the Coulter Shield competition on Sunday at Colmslio.

The side will play the second half of this season's competition at Tweed Heads on Sunday week.

"Dylan and Mitchell shared time in the box and did well," co-coach Adam Byrne said.

"Both played in the halves when not in the box."

Byrne said the side was training at 5pm each Tuesday and Thursday in preparation for the next round of Coulter Shield and the start championships at the Sunshine Coast in the first week of the June/July school holidays.

"More players are welcome to training, we had 12 at the weekend," Byrne said.

While the side didn't score any goals, Byrne said they did secure some penalty corners against much bigger opposition.

"Our youngest player is William Ready, they are all new to representative hockey except four or five," he said.

Byrne, a former Brisbane Hockey Association A1 player of the year, and star Warwick over 35 striker Phil Rolfe co-coach the team.

Warwick lost 7-0 to Redlands and 2-0 to Toowoomba in its two games.

Some of the Warwick U13 players will play up at grade in U15 Coulter Shield this weekend.
