Local hockey players in bid for regional selection
SIX Warwick hockey players will trial for Darling Downs primary school selection later this week.
The players all play Warwick juniors and have the chance to gain selection in the regional teams for boys and girls to play in the state championships in Brisbane in late June.
They were selected for the regional trials from a group of 20 Southern Downs students who tried out in Warwick and had to impress selectors to be considered for the trials in Toowoomba.
Five of the six will be aiming to play for Darling Downs for the first time.
Bryana McGowan played for Darling Downs last year and is going for back-to-back regional teams.
Jack Bergemann is a centre half who is also part of the Warwick under-13 team training for state championships which start on June 30 in Bundaberg.
"I am keen to make the Darling Downs school team at the trials this week," he said.
There is plenty happening in Warwick junior hockey with the Warwick U15 girls training for the Southern Cross Championships in Toowoomba on May 18.
Warwick will host one day of U13 boys Coulter Shield this season. Junior fixtures are Saturday mornings.
