THE sight of a London blue synthetic hockey surface at Queens Park doesn't mean the Warwick Hockey Association complex has been restored to its pre-flood condition.

Work on the new field is progressing and association flood committee member Glenn Eastwell expects most work being done by contractors to be finished some time next week.

Work on the underlay/ shock pad was finished at the weekend and the synthetic is being progressively laid this week.

Eastwell said once the surface was down, two months of solid work remained for volunteers.

"We have to rebuild the fence, construct the dug-outs, technical bench, stands and grass the levy bank," he said.

Committee member Sheryl Windle has her fingers crossed the United States women's hockey team might train in Warwick before the London Olympics.

"I am in email contact with coach Lee Bodimeade (ex-Warwick Olympian) and he is keen for the team to train on London blue, the surface being used for the 2012 Olympics," Windle said.

"It all depends on where (US) Tests against Australia are scheduled before the Olympics.

"If the Tests are in the eastern states, odds are the team will train in Warwick."

Warwick officials believe they have only the third London blue surface constructed in Australia.

"We had the first water-based surface on the Darling Downs 16 years ago and now we have the first London blue," Eastwell said.

"I have an old (Daily News) cutting where Australian player Stephen Davies rated our first surface one of the best he had played on."

Tomorrow the association will holds its sign-on for the season at Queens Park.
