Hockey team finishes Warwick season undefeated

HOCKEY: A goal by Erin Gilmore midway through the first half secured a 1-0 Corinthians victory against Wyverns and a premiership in Warwick ladies hockey.

The grand-final win enabled Corinthians to finish the season with an unbeaten record under the coaching of Australian masters player Rob Pohlman.

The best player awards in the ladies grand final were won by Wyverns mother and daughter Jannita Oldham and Grace Parsons.

Corinthians coach Rob Pohlman said centre half McKenzie Wenmoth held the game together for the team in attack and defence.

"Grace Jacobs was strong at right half, I can't fault any of the girls as they did a great job,” he said.

He admits he was worried with just a 1-0 lead when Wyverns had a number of penalty corners.

Wyverns goalie Donna Carey said it was a tight game that could have gone either way.

"It was the tightest game we had with Wyverns this season,” she said.

"Our backs went really well.”

"Yasmin McWhinney had a strong game for Corinthians while goalie Tamara McGowan also played well.”

In the men's game, Saints beat Wyverns 4-2. Noel King was player of the final.
