Holden makes tracks

THE plans are drawn and the excavators are in full motion as construction on the new Holden showroom begins to spin its wheels.

Roulston Builders moved in yesterday and started removing old slabs of concrete next to Southern Downs Mazda; the new home of Holden.

The two dealerships, both owned by Wippells Automotive, will now operate side by side from the Cunningham Hwy address and general manager Chris Osborne was excited about the new developments.

"It means we can have two brands under one roof, making it easier for customers," Mr Osborne said.

"When they come and have a look at a car, all of a sudden they have two brands to look at rather than just the one."

The new location will catch the eye of people coming into town, and being on the highway, it is a convenient location for all to access.

"I think it will be (more convenient for buyers)," Mr Osborne said.

"Holden is coming to new premises for one thing, and now we've got all the dealerships in close proximity.

"You've got to move with the times and so that's what we've done."

The 340sq m showroom will take about eight to 10 weeks to complete, but Mr Osborne assured the businesses were still running as usual.

"A lot of people don't like to drive in when the construction is on because they think they're in the way or something, but it's still business as usual," he said.

Mr Osborne said he was unsure what the owner of the former Holden showroom would do with the vacant premises.
