Holmes tackles strongly in Wallabies win
ALLORA prop Greg Holmes made seven tackles in his 25 minutes on the field as the Wallabies beat Wales 15-6 to top pool A in the Rugby World Cup.
If one does the statistics for tackles per time on the field, Holmes had the best record for the Wallabies and many were crucial tackles as Wales was close to scoring.
Some of his tackling skill was learnt in junior rugby league with Wattles in the Allora/Clifton area in an era Holmes made a state merit junior team in rugby league.
His tackles were at a crucial time as he came on to the field just before the Wallabies were two men down for five minutes, and one man short for 15 minutes after two players were sent to the bin in close succession.
He made four runs in attack for a game total of 10 metres.
Bernard Foley was the star for the Wallabies landing five goals from six attempts in a try-less cup game.
The win has pitted Australia against Scotland in the quarter-finals. A loss would have put Australia in a tougher game against South Africa.
Holmes has now played in every Wallabies game this year.
