Home and away hockey games for Warwick

HOCKEY: The Warwick hockey boys and girls teams are playing state championships 600km apart from Sunday to Wednesday.

The Warwick boys team will play at home at Queens Park while the girls will play in Gladstone.

In their first game on Sunday morning, the Warwick boys ent down 4-0 to Mt Isa.

Jayden McLaughlin has been in Warwick since April and is the boys coach after being a coach at Barbs club in Grafton.

"We are grateful to players from Brisbane and Gold Coast who helped us form a team,” he said.

"The Warwick boys are excited to be playing at home. I want them all to have a fun time.”

Mark Shadlow is the Warwick manager.

The draw for Tuesday and Wednesday will depend on results in the round robin competition.

"There are a couple of players from last year returning and Sam Bourke will step up an age group. I will play him in the half line.”

Boys draw: Warwick games: Sunday 2.10pm v Gympie; Monday 10.10am v Toowoomba 2, 2.10pm v Tweed Border; Tuesday 7.30am v Bundaberg, then new draw.

Girls trip

THIRTEEN players are heading to Gladstone to play for Warwick in the Queensland under-15 girls hockey championships.

Alan Balfour is coach, Chris Malone assistant coach, Jody Aspinall manager and Michelle Eastwell assistant manager.

Eastwell said the team had been training for the past 10 weeks.

"Half the team is backing up after playing in the mid-year school holidays in the state under-18 championships at Murwillumbah,” she said.

"We came second out of five teams in the Southern Cross under-15 competition in Toowoomba this season.

"Our only loss was to a Brisbane team that was undefeated.”

Balfour has coached a Warwick under-13 girls team at a past state championships.

Krystal Peterson is the team goalie and has been a goalie for Warwick in the past at state championships.
