Home side wins Shell Cup in photo finish against Tansey

POLOCROSSE: Warwick and Tansey matched it goal for goal before the home side won by one goal to secure the Shell Cup in a classic final at Morgan Park yesterday.

The best player award was won by Tom O'Neill from Tansey.

There were plenty of close games in the Barastoc Interstate Series at Morgan Park at the weekend, especially the last game in the men's competition which New South Wales won 21-20 late on the final day.

Queensland president Eric Beresford said the Maroons were happy with their overall performance in the interstate series.

"We are building momentum towards the nationals in Albury next year. We were fortunate Queenslanders were able to provide horses for two Western Australian teams to play, one in the Barastoc Interstate Series and one in the Shell Cup."

New South Wales player Sandra Weston won the award for best Australian Stock Horse ridden by a woman in the interstate series with Lance Anderson (NSW) winning the men's ASH and overall horse of the carnival awards.

The weekend wasn't just about interstate and club games, the Australian World Cup team to play in South Africa mid-year played against two development teams from current Australian squads.

In the afternoon game yesterday, Australia dominated against the Polocrosse Association of Australia (PAA) Blue development team but the men from the Blue side did draw one chukka 3-all.

PAA board member Michael Rynne said games between players from within the Australian squad would be played annually.

"We are proud this group of players will carry our hopes to South Africa for this World Cup," he said.
