Hooker is the star for the Killarney Cutters

RUGBY LEAGUE: Hookers shouldn't be the leading try scorers in rugby league.

Obviously no one told Killarney Cutters No.9 Jamie Watts who scored four tries in a 66-10 win against Stanthorpe in the Border Rugby League on Saturday at Sullivan Oval.

Killarney scored 14 tries and landed five goals.

As well as four tries by Watts, Gareth Polzin, Jacob Grayson and Ian Brown each scored two tries.

Nathan Lambert, Brett Lambert, Michael Brackin and Josh Drennert scored tries.

Jacob Polzin landed three goals, Ian Brown and Brett Lambert one each for the Cutters.

Corey Ashleigh and Lachlan Hendry scored tries for Stanthorpe and Aaron Abraham landed one goal.

Killarney co-coach Ray Wagner rated Jamie Watts as his best.

"Jamie gave us good direction from dummy-half and showed a lot of footy smarts in scoring his tries,” Wagner said.

"Our forward pack really stood up and each of them was keen to take the hard runs.”

Half-back Mick Brackin was strong for Killarney and centre Ian Brown stood out.

With leaders Inglewood going down 28-20 to Tenterfield on Saturday, Killarney and Inglewood each have two wins from three games and are on top of the table.

Killarney will host Inglewood on Saturday in the Bob Garred Shield game.

Wagner said the club wanted a large turnout of fans at the game.

"I want the town to support a good group of fellows at home games, the more supporters the better,” he said.
