Cunningham loses junior final

HOST club Cunningham went down 13-10 to Tansey in the A-grade junior competition final at Bony Mountain.

Zac O'Leary won best horse and rider in a final rated one of the best at a Cunningham carnival for many years.

Toowoomba won B-grade juniors against Gold Coast 12-11 with Andrew Lossberg, of Toowoomba, best horse and rider.

In C-grade, a five-team round robin was played with Warwick winning from Tansey 2. Heidi Geppert, of Clifton, was best horse and rider.

The Nellie Gilbert Memorial Trophy was won by Taylah Ward, of Lockyer Valley. The trophy is presented each year to a young up-and-coming junior who keeps on trying and always shows good sportsmanship.

The Des Cooper Memorial Trophy for a Cunningham player who shows outstanding presentation and sportsmanship during the season was won by Dougal Strahley.

The Strahley family hail from Inverell but have played for the Cunningham club for the past three seasons.

Cunningham plans to hold a carnival two weeks before the nationals in April next year and then host the state championships on August 31-September 2, 2012, at which 80 teams are expected to play.
