COMEDY: City's YouTube star wins thousands of followers

CHEYANNE Ferguson always thought her life should be on screen, and now it is.

The amateur YouTuber is gaining a following for her comedy and lifestyle advice.

She's part of a growing trend of video producers uploading content regularly to the user-generated content video-sharing website YouTube.

Some of the highlights on her channel include her brother tricking her into drinking methylated spirit instead of vodka and her cracking an egg on her head.

Ms Ferguson started watching gaming videos on YouTube but then realised people were also blogging about their lives.

So she uploaded her first video and since uploaded hundreds more to her thousands of followers.

She taught herself how to edit videos and invested in a better camera and lighting.

It's not a full-time job; she works in childcare and is also a mother.

She does make some money through advertising on the site, which is based on how many views each video gets.

But it's not much. In about two years she made $70.

Ms Ferguson said she did it for fun, and plans to ramp up her operation.

She also wants to establish a group of YouTubers in Toowoomba.

She takes inspiration from big stars like Swedish comedian PewDiePie, who has more than 50 million subscribers, and Shane Dawson (eight million).

Ms Ferguson also follows lesser-known stars who she said were often funnier.

She said the most important thing for up-and-coming YouTubers was for them to be themselves.

"Always be yourself, or it just won't work," she said.

Her channel, youtube.com/cheyannejanevideos, is aimed at adults.
