Howzat: Life membership for long-serving mum

IT WAS the end of the season for junior cricket players in Warwick today.

But it was also the end of a decade of volunteering for one mum.

Tanya Gross was today named a life member of junior cricket at Slade Park.

The mum of three boys said she had started volunteering when her oldest son, Lachlan, began playing, with younger brothers Ben and Jacob soon following suit.

"Lachlan started out when he was 10 and they've all moved up and still play for senior cricket," Mrs Gross said.

"I've done a lot of the behind the scenes secretarial type jobs during that time.

"This was Jacob's last year playing junior cricket so it's sort of exciting.

"The reward for being a volunteer is being able to see the kids going out there with a smile on their face because they're playing with their mates."
