THE body of a man has been discovered by police in the house devastated by fire on Saturday night.

Although the remains are yet to be identified, police believe to be a male resident in his 50s.

Earlier in the evening, emergency services confirmed that one person at the house was unaccounted for.

Scenes of Crime officers are now investigating the scene in an effort to find out how the fire started.

The house has been totally destroyed.

NOW: Emergency crews are still on the scene of a major house fire in Warwick as they struggle to contain the blaze.

The fire started about 6.38pm and quickly engulfed the Wantley St residence.

Crowds gathered around the scene and early reports are the house to the left had a family inside who were all evacuated safely and the house to the right is a vacant property.

It isn't clear if the blazing house was empty.

It is possible a person was at the residence, but at this point it is unclear whether they are unaccounted for.

Early reports advise the occupant of the house was admitted to hospital early today but there still may be one person at the residence as yet unaccounted for.

The house at 5 Wantley St is completely alight and fire crews are battling to contain the fire.
