Hunt for Bindi and Terri stalker

POLICE in Victoria are hunting an elderly man who harassed wildlife crusader Terri Irwin and wrote an obscene note to her daughter Bindi.

A warrant was issued yesterday for the arrest of Alexander Duncan Davidson, 71, who failed to appear in the Victorian County Court in Melbourne.

He was scheduled to appeal against a prison sentence he received last year.

Davidson, who lives in the Melbourne suburb of South Yarra, was jailed for 12 months, with a minimum of four months to be served, on charges that included using a postal service to menace Terri.

It was part of a series of bizarre letters and stalking incidents involving Davidson over the past two years.

In October last year, Melbourne Magistrates Court heard Davidson was a “very unusual man” who had little remorse for Ms Irwin and his other victims.

The court was told he sent a nasty letter to Terri in December, 2007, after seeing a Melbourne newspaper article about her hope of talking with her late husband Steve’s spirit through famous medium John Edward.

Terri and Steve’s father Bob had a private session with the psychic in January, 2008, in a bid to contact the late wildlife hero.

Davidson tore out the story, wrote an offensive message and complained he was tired of seeing Ms Irwin in the media.

At the bottom of the letter, which also threatened Bindi, he signed his name and gave his phone number.

When Terri received the letter, she handed it over to Queensland police and an arrest was quickly made.

Davidson, who has a number of convictions for stalking and using postal services to harass, said he did not think about how it would affect the Irwins.

Yesterday, his barrister Janine Gleeson told Judge Lisa Hannan it was “very odd” for her client not to appear in court.

Ms Gleeson could not explain why he was not there.

Terri Irwin has made no public comment about the incident.
