Icy Sunday morning greets the Southern Downs

FREEZING overnight conditions across the Southern Downs had residents reaching for the extra doona as temperatures dipped well below expected.

A grey and windy Saturday gave away to a freezing night across the whole region with temperatures reaching an icy -2.8 degrees in Applethorpe at 6am.

Temperatures in Warwick hovered around the zero mark from about 2am with a low of -1.8 degrees at 6.30am.

At 8.30am the mercury had only reached 4.5 degrees.

With a bright sunny day forecast, the cold start should disappear quickly with a top of 20 degrees today.

To start the working week, there is a real chance of rain starting tomorrow through until Wednesday.
