'If that tower falls down, we're screwed'
RESIDENTS feared for the safety of their homes this afternoon after fire quickly spread from a tree to the bottom of the Telstra tower in Warwick.
Nadia Ngarama lives on Fitzroy St and said her husband was the first to spot the blaze.
"The whole tree was literally on fire and by the time I got over there underneath the tower was burning," she said.
"I nearly got burnt by leaves and parts of the tree that was burning in the wind."
Miss Ngarama quickly called the fire brigade, but she said the fire spread quickly.
"I was really scared, I was going over but in the back of my mind I was thinking if that tower falls down, we're screwed," she said.
Fire crews were called to the scene about 5.20pm this afternoon.
Miss Ngarama said the flames took about 10 minutes to put out.
Cars stopped on the street and residents came out of their homes to watch in awe as the flames spread.
A spokesman from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said the fire was extinguished by 6pm.
Miss Ngarama was concerned the fire may have been lit deliberately.
"I can't believe people just think that's a joke, that's putting every one's lives in danger," she said.
